Support for the New Start A Helping Hand for Two-Career Couples Who Have Switched Jobs and Moved House
During the mutual vetting that takes place before the university appoints a new professor, the possibilities for the professional development of the candidate's spouse or life partner often play a decisive role.
The University of Duisburg-Essen has established the Dual Career Service to take account of the situation of double-career couples during the negotiations that are part of the appointment process. In addition to gathering information of interest to such couples, the Dual Career Service provides them with support and assistance during the search for an adequate position or other option enabling the prospective professor's spouse or life partner to stay on his or her chosen career path.
